 Yoga at the Aiki Center

The Aiki Center is pleased to offer hatha yoga, through our affiliation with Peaceful Spirt Yoga.

About Hatha yoga
Hatha yoga is a mind/body practice consisting of physical poses (asanas) coordinated with the breath.

Benefits of yoga practice include:
  • the development of strength and flexibility
  • increased physical and mental well-being
  • relaxation and relief from stress
  • the practice may be used as a gateway to meditative/spiritual practices

Classes are open to all and assume no prior yoga experience.

 About the Instructor

Dave Lyons is the chief yoga instructor, as well as an assistant aikido instructor at the dojo. Dave has been a long-time student of Eastern arts, including aikido and yoga. His aikido training began in 1996. He was promoted to shodan in June 2006, and continues to train and teach at Aikido Suimei under Garrett Fuller Sensei. He has been studying hatha yoga since 2001, and his hatha practice emphasizes mindfulness, graceful flowing move ment, and focus on the breath. Initiated by Pandit Rajmani Tiguniat in 2001, Dave has studied at the national headquarters of the Himalayan Institute, and been a student of the tradition for over 10 years.  Dave is an advanced student of Ron Glick.

Ron Glick, MA, MS, MSSW has been teaching yoga over 30 years, and served on the Institute's Teacher Training Board, where he certified teaching candidates from all over the world, and revised teacher training curriculum and the Institute's hatha manuals. Ron, a long time student of Sri Swami Rama, the founder of the Himalayan Institute, holds a Master’s degree in yoga, awarded jointly by the Institute and the University of Scranton.

Wear comfortable, non-binding clothing that allows you to move and breathe. Yogis prefer natural fibers to let our bodies breathe. We recommend not eating before practice, but if you have blood sugar issues or wish to eat beforehand, eat light; juices are good.
